Meet the Team

  • Mohammed Kaiseruddin

    Chairman

    Dr. Kaiseruddin has served the Chicago Muslim community in various leadership capacities for over 40 years, including as the Co-Founder and Chairman of the CIOGC and the President of the Muslim Community Center. Professionally, he has a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and is currently retired.

  • Adnan Shafi

    Director, Chair of Interfaith Committee

    Adnan Shafi is a Board Member of the Downtown Islamic Center (DIC), where he chairs the Interfaith Committee. Since 2016, he has been an active volunteer at DIC, helping lead initiatives such as Feed the Hungry, coordinating Ramadan programs, and strengthening partnerships with interfaith and community organizations. His work reflects a deep commitment to service and fostering unity within and beyond the Muslim community.

    Adnan was born and raised in Kashmir and later pursued higher education in India, earning a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) and a Bachelor of Laws from Amity University in Noida. He went on to earn a Master’s in Intellectual Property Law (2016) and a J.D. (2019) from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law.

    Professionally, Adnan is an attorney at Johnson & Bell, Ltd., where he focuses on municipal liability, medical malpractice defense, and commercial litigation. He previously served as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. He also serves on the South Asian Bar Association of Chicago’s board, including as Treasurer since 2024, contributing to mentorship and outreach.

  • Khalid Abughazaleh

    Director, Chair of Fundraising Committee

    Dr. Abughazaleh has been extensively involved with many NGO’s most notable is his involvement with the Palestine Children’s Relief fund for 20 years, in which he has led over 40 surgical missions to Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan, in addition to serving on the PCRF board of directors including 6 years as the immediate past chairman. He is also involved with the Palestinian Student Scholarship and The Jerusalem Fund.
