Kids’ Program: Teacher

We are looking for three teachers for our Kids’ Program. It operates Sundays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting September 6th. We are looking for folks who have basic Islamic knowledge and experience teaching or mentoring kids ages 5-12. A curriculum will be provided for you to teach from.

Kids’ Program: Secretary

We are looking for a secretary for our Kids’ Program. It operates Sundays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting September 6th. We are looking for a responsible adult that can ensure classrooms are ready before students arrive, step in when a student or teacher needs assistance, and field questions from folks who have questions or want to register on the spot.

Beginners’ Arabic: Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a teaching assistant for our Beginners’ Arabic program, which will Sundays from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM starting September 6. The TA must attend all classes and be willing to lead review sessions. An ijaza in tajweed or passing an oral exam is required. This person should also be open to teaching Beginners’ Arabic future semesters at DIC.

Intermediate Arabic: Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a teaching assistant for our Intermediate Arabic program, which will be Mondays from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM starting September 7. The TA must attend all classes and be willing to lead review sessions. An ijaza in tajweed or passing an oral exam is required. This person should also be open to teaching Beginners’ Arabic future semesters at DIC.

Sisters’ Tafsir: Teaching Assistant

Sisters’ Tafsir is a one-hour weekly program for sisters that covers the tafsir of Surah al-Baqarah using Tafsir Imam al-Qurtubi. Sessions are Mondays from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM starting September 7. A teaching assistant would help facilitate group discussions, request feedback from attendees, and brainstorm ways to improve and grow the class.

Kids’ Qur’an Competition: Event Organizer

Downtown Islamic Center is planning our second Qur’an competition for kids Saturday, December 12th. We are looking for an event organizer who can be responsible for registration, event decor, prize recommendations, and certificate design. You will be given 3-5 volunteers to execute this event, but you are responsible for executing the event successfully. Prior event planning experience required.

New Muslims’ Program: Buddy

DIC is introducing a New Muslims’ buddy program that seeks to pair new Muslims with a brother or a sister to reach out to their first 30 days of being a Muslim. You will be paired with a new shahada of the same gender, and are asked to meet with them at least twice at Downtown Islamic Center. You must know how to correctly perform ablution and pray according to one of the four madhahib. You must also have basic Islamic knowledge and know when to redirect a question to our resident scholar.

New Muslims’ Program: Program Lead

DIC is introducing a New Muslims’ buddy program that seeks to pair new Muslims with a brother or a sister to reach out to their first 30 days of being a Muslim. We are seeking a program lead who will be responsible for designing and ordering materials for our new shahada bags, pairing new shahadas with a “buddy,” and organizing quarterly meet-ups at DIC for converts and reverts to socialize. Prior event organizing experience required.

Open Mosque Day: Program lead

Do you enjoy giving da’wah? Consider becoming a program lead for our recurring “Open Mosque Day” event. We spend 60-90 minutes covering the basics of Islam and frequently asked questions. We then show guests around Downtown Islamic Center so they can see our prayer and ablution spaces. This volunteer opportunity will be offered monthly, and requires someone who has strong fundamental knowledge of Islam, a basic understanding of other major religions, and some da’wah experience. You must also know when not to answer if you don’t have knowledge of something.
