The Importance of the Basmala
Some say that disbelievers (kuffar) don't say the basmala or alhamdulillah, yet Allah still grants them blessings of food, money, and health. For us, these same blessings should be seen as opportunities to draw closer to Allah and thank Him — with the understanding that our true reward comes in the akhirah, and that is what ultimately matters.
Why Allah Grants Blessings to Those Who Oppose Him
When Allah gives power, wealth, health, and provision to the kuffar — including those who fight against Islam, the Prophet ﷺ, the previous prophets, and the righteous — this reflects two things:
Allah's mercy and the granting of a chance to repent. The Quran states that if Allah held people fully accountable for what they earned, not a single creature would remain. Allah is Ghafur (Forgiving), Raheem (Merciful), and Haleem (Forbearing), and He gives us many chances to turn back to Him despite our shortcomings.
A demonstration of the dunya's true worth. Had this worldly life carried real value, Allah would not have granted such blessings to those who fight His prophets, His religion, and His word. This life is worth little to nothing compared to the next. We should not conclude that failing to thank Allah is inconsequential — in reality, gratitude is itself an act of worship, and the greater reward for it lies in the hereafter.
